Key Stage 3

 

STEM

Numeracy 

Students will be working on ratio, fractions decimals and percentage. They will learn how to order and compare fractions decimals and percentage. They will then move onto the 4 operations in relation to decimals and fractions, before moving on to finding a fraction of an amount and the percentage of an amount.

Science

This term students will be focusing on reproduction. They will look at reproduction in .humans  focusing on the reproductive system, menstrual cycle fertilization and birth. They will also look at reproduction in plants.

ICT

ICT will be embedded across the curriculum in KS3.

Geography

We will be investigating the Western front, trench warfare, how and where WW1 was fought.

We will also be looking at the countries involved and how the war progressed and affected Europe, looking at the difference between pre-WW1 Europe and Europe afterwards

Literacy

Students will listen to and discuss a wide range of narratives, reading for a range of purposes. They will prepare poems to read aloud, showing understanding through intonation, tone, volume and action. Students will also discuss words and phrases that capture the reader’s interest and imagination. They will be able to recognise different forms of poetry eg free verse and narrative. 

Cooking

This half term we are focusing on WW1 dishes including Oat biscuits, Vegetable soup, Potato and cheese dumplings, Cottage pie and Bread and butter pudding.

Creative and expressive arts

Student will use Kapow Music to Improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the inter-related dimensions of music.

History

This half term we will be investigating World War 1. We will be looking at key events, understanding some of the reasons the Great War began and investigating some of the technologies and strategies developed to fight the first modern war.

Thrive

PSHCE

Students will learn about the role of parents/carers 
and explain why each is important in a child’s development. They will learn about factors which can help relationships to thrive and develop
and causes of 
breakdowns in relationships. Students will also look at the main advantages and disadvantages of different types of contraception, identify the names of STIs and know where to seek help on sex and contraception.

Life skills

Students will study the 'healthy eating plate' and create their own food diary. They will plan and cook a healthy meal for a group with a  particular dietary need. They will review nutritional values of the dish.

RE

Weekly assembly will be used to discuss the 'Thought of the week' which will include National Stress Awareness Month; PSHE Day; Anti-Bullying Week; Role models/heroes; World AIDS Day; Advent/Christmas; Achievement 

PE 

This half term pupils will focus on developing skills in Team Sports such as football. Pupils will develop skills through drills and demonstrate these in conditioned practice.
